Pink Floyd’s prophetically titled 1983 album and Roger Waters’ final salvo with the iconic band is finally available in analog audiophile fidelity courtesy of this 180g LP, mastered from the original master tapes and featuring faithful-to-the-original packaging. The Final Cut, prompted by the Falklands conflict of 1982, explores themes of remembrance and the undelivered post-war dream – for which Waters’ father had given his life. An abandoned soundtrack to the 1982 film Pink Floyd – The Wall, The Final Cut is completely credited to Waters, attributed to ‘Roger Waters performed by Pink Floyd’, and features David Gilmour’s vocals on just one track, “Not Now John.” Lyrically and sonically dense works like “Your Possible Pasts,” “The Hero’s Return” and “Not Now John” offer up glimpses of Pink Floyd’s signature brilliance while also serving as the closing salvos from the lineup that produced some of the finest albums and most iconic songs in music history. An acrimonious legal dispute for the Pink Floyd moniker followed shortly after the album’s release and Waters soon left the band for good.
